At a House of Commons Reception on Friday night, Andrew Dakers, Chief Executive of West London Business announced the appointment of Derek Myers, Director of Beond as a co-chairman of the West London Sustainability and Climate Change Commission.
Four Commissions were established to focus on the main issues faced by West London business, which also included Traffic and Infrastructure, The Built Environment and Skills and Employment.
The Event was hosted by Seema Malhotra, MP for Feltham and Heston, Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury. Guest speaker was Lord Bilimoria, life peer of House of Lords and founder of Cobra Beer. He explained that he was a Euro-sceptic but will be voting to remain in EU and quoted a supporting African saying: ‘To move fast you can work alone, but to go far you must work together’
The Commissions will deliver their recommendations for West London by early next year. The members of the Commissions will be meeting over the next few months to identify the key issues and opportunities and to develop their research plan.
Derek Myers said ‘The UK has been over-delivering on EU targets, having reduced carbon emissions by 20% over 20 years despite 54% economic growth. With promising technologies quickly reducing the costs of renewable sources of energy, Beond believes that climate change can be solved in the next decade. However it will require a concerted focus, clever thinking and calculated risk taking.’
